My Real Morning Routine
I am not a morning person. I want to be very clear about that before I tell you about my morning routine. I’m not the type of person to wake up at 5am, cold plunge and drink my greens…there are days where I want to be that type of person, I’m just not there, yet.

Two Things That Make Everything Manageable
I started getting up a little earlier, getting dressed, and going for a little walk before Little Miss wakes up. That morning routine helped me realize, just a little time to myself before we’re off and on our way for the day makes me feel a little more prepared for what the day brings.
There were a few days over the past few years where I would be really ambitious and wake up even earlier to make it to at 5:30 am gym class. On those days, I recognized how much more I was able to handle and accomplish in the day with a little extra time in the morning spent just for me.
Another big thing that has worked so well for us, is preparing as much as we can the night before. The shower, laying out clothes, getting the backpack ready…all those things can be prepared so easily the night before and make for a smooth morning. No going back and forth on what clothes to wear or trying to find the backpack and all the things to put in it. It’s all the things that are ready to go and make the morning so much more manageable, rather than chaotic.
Our Actual Morning Timeline
I’m not saying that this is exactly what you have to do for a manageable morning, but here’s the run-down of our timing to get out the door on time for school.
6:25 – I wake up, get dressed and ready for a little walk around the neighborhood. A good podcast, audiobook or church talk are always a must have for my morning walk.
7:00 – Annabelle wakes up and gets dressed in her room. Ideally, she makes her bed and opens her curtains, but honestly, we’re still getting into the school routine so I’m not too pushy on that…yet.
7:10 – Annabelle makes it to the kitchen and finds a seat at the kitchen table to eat her breakfast. Her breakfast of choice is avocado toast with a protein drink, but some days she prefers a bowl of cereal.
7:20 – Finish getting ready, by doing her hair. I still enjoy doing Annabelle’s hair, and she let me to do it, so for now I’ll enjoy that time together.
7:30 – Final touches – shoes, jacket, backpack. As the weather changes it takes a little longer to get all the layers on, but for now, we’re pretty quick to get those final touches.
7:40 – Family prayer and out the door. We gather as a family and say a prayer together as a family to send everyone on their way.
7:45 – Out the door and off to school drop-off.
