Spring Cleaning – 6 Ways to get Spring Ready
Can you believe that it’s already that time of year? Spring is here and I couldn’t be happier about it. I am ready for warmer days, more time outside in the sunshine, blossoming flowers and the starts of gardens beginning. Along with all those wonderful and exciting things, come chores to keep a home tidy and clean. Many of us set time aside to do a thorough spring cleaning in our homes, and I wanted to share with you some of the things that I am doing to get spring ready.

Whole House

I know that some of these tasks might take longer than others, but once you complete them, they’ll be done for the next few months. Tackle them all in one day, break them into zones to work on a little at a time or 1-2 a day for a week. Whatever it is that works best for you, do that!
Kitchen

The size of your kitchen may determine the workload you have in store. Our kitchen is pretty small, so I will break mine into two days – fridge clean out and wipe down & pantry one day, then the other cleaning of and behind appliances, floors and cupboards another day.
Baking and cooking in a clean kitchen is one of the best things, I wish I could maintain such “perfection” in the kitchen, so I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts and then look forward to another day of such perfection.
Family Room

This list could be used for your play room, loft and any other gathering type of room that could use a good refresh. It’s better to get everything clean and fresh, especially as you’ll be much busier through the summer and the cleaning isn’t always done while spending so much time outside in the beautiful sunshine.
Bedrooms & Closets

I don’t spend a lot of time in my room, but the piles of miscellaneous things and collected dust always surprises me. Spending a little time in the room that you sleep in and rest will leave you feeling even more refreshed and ready for the new season ahead.
Vacuuming my bed after letting some baking soda sit on it for a few hours is one of my favorite things to do for a fresh bed. There are quite a few things you can learn when you do some reading about spring cleaning, and learning about the importance of cleaning a bed was astonishing. It is definitely a part of spring cleaning that I will never forget in the future. Here is an article that I read that gave some wonderful suggestions for good bed hygiene.

Bathrooms

Well, well…isn’t it one of our favorite and most dreaded spaces in the home to clean. It is never a fun space to clean, with all the nooks and crannies where dust and dirt collect. However, once you get all those spaces sparkling again, you are ready for a nice shower after all the cleaning you’ve been doing.
Miscellaneous

Some areas and miscellaneous things can be forgotten, but I have tried to think of a few other things around the house that could use a good deep cleaning. The more you get done now, while you’re on a roll with all the cleaning, the more enjoyable and relaxing your summer will be knowing you have a clean and tidy home.
Sometimes spring cleaning could use a good kick start, before getting into the deep cleaning. There are a few things that can be done to prepare and make things a little easier to accomplish.
I remember learning from Emily Ley, her Simplified Spring Cleaning Challenge, a few things I try to do weekly and/or monthly to keep up on the cleaning in our home.
- Gather the trash in the home, then clean and sanitize each trash can.
- Dust the lampshades and curtains.
- Clean the dishwasher and washer.
- Wipe down the window sills and baseboards.
- Tidy the trunk of your car.
After all this spring cleaning, you probably are feeling like you want some new furniture or something to change up in your home. Before you go out and buy something, look at what you have a move it around. Rearrange furniture, move pictures and paintings – little changes can make some of the biggest changes.
Cleaning Supplies
If you haven’t heard me talk about it yet, you are in luck! I have been using Thieves cleaner for over a year now and I love it so much! It works so well and it lasts me longer than any other cleaner I’ve used in the past, and I use it far more often than other cleaners too. With other cleaners, I had headaches the whole time I was cleaning and hands burning from the chemicals. Now, I use Thieves and love the smell it leaves and have no issues with the cleaner on my hands too. It is a huge improvement and my house is just as clean, if not cleaner with Thieves cleaner.
