Choosing to Stay Positive & Happy

Your attitude has a much larger impact on your life in more ways than you think.  I have learned this from several experiences in my life, but even more so in the past three months.  There have been many mixed emotions with the passing of Emma – we can’t control everything that happens in our life, but we can control our attitude.

Days have been hard and unbearable at times, we’ve been angry and confused trying to understand why Emma had to leave us so early.  In those days though, they were some of the darkest and most difficult days.  I wanted to push people away and be alone, which is not something I normally do.

After having family around and friends continually reaching out and uplifting me, I knew that I had a choice to make.  I had to choose between staying miserable and alone, or allow others in and openly share what I was going through to get the support that I needed.

So, I made a choice.  I chose to let people in and that choice has been the greatest blessing in my life.  It was hard at times, and yes it was awkward for some people knowing what we’d been through.  However, the love and support we received was exactly what we needed and helped us heal.

We built bonds and friendships that are stronger now than we ever would have expected.  Everyone in our life will always hold a special place in our heart and we hope to always be there for them during their trying times as well.

Staying positive and happy is not an easy thing, but it’s better than the opposite.  Over the past three months Scott and I have been able to do things that have brought us together in ways we never expected.  We have made memories and cherished every day we get to spend with one another.  We love each other and support each other in every way we possibly can.

If there is anything to take away from this, we just ask that you make the most of the time you have with your family and friends.  Make memories and cherish the moments you spend together.  Document your life, because you will never regret it when you go back to look on those memories you have made.  Live your life to the fullest and as Thomas S. Monson said, “Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey, and share our love with friends and family.”
