There is always something special about the holiday season, but there can also be the feeling of overwhelm or stress too. I wanted to share these tips to help moms this holiday season. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate the holiday season. The joy that comes from all the traditions and festive events is one of my favorite things. At the same time, there can be a feeling of too many things to do, which leads to overwhelm. These 3 tips are to help you enjoy and cherish the moments spent with family and friends this holiday season.

Tip #1: Maintain a Regular Routine

Just because you may feel the hustle and bustle of the world doesn’t mean you need to add that into your life. Your day-to-day routine should maintain as normal as possible. Kids love routines, whether they admit it or not.

There will be the occasional holiday party or outing that is special for this season – which deserves to be enjoyed! When the special occasions are minimal, everyone will remember and enjoy that time even more.

Find time to enjoy all the special moments with your little ones this holiday season.

Tip #2: Simplify & Be Realistic

You don’t have to do everything. I know that can be hard to accept, but it’s okay. Comparison tends to creep in and all you want to do is “keep up with the Joneses” or have the Pinterest perfect Christmas. In all honesty, most of us will never reach that “status” if that’s what you want to call it.

Be as realistic as you can be. Do what you know you can do, and don’t be tempted to go overboard with any of it. Pleasing everyone is something you’ve tried to do, but it may not be attainable. Choose the things you know everyone will enjoy and make memories!

Here are a few of our favorite things to do this holiday season as a family are:

  • We started off earlier this month making gingerbread houses. Use what comes in a kit or go all out and make the gingerbread houses and gather the goodies to decorate with.
  • There are many different places to visit this holiday season near our home. Find some fun Christmas lights, visit Santa, go find some reindeer…there may be more than you know.
  • Make some goodies at home for neighbors. A few of our favorite cookie recipes are Sugar Cookies and Christmas Funfetti M&M Cookies.
Comparison tends to creep in and all you want to do is "keep up with the Joneses" or have the Pinterest perfect Christmas.

Tip #3: Self-Care

Don’t forget about yourself and taking care of yourself. It’s a non-negotiable this time of year. Self-care can look different for everyone. Some ways to take care of yourself are through meditation, asking for help, eating well, and exercising.

The best gift to give yourself for the holiday season is self-care. As you do that, you are fueled and enjoying the season more, which then leads to everyone else enjoying the season. The truth is, moms can’t take care of other without taking care of themselves.
